The anti war movement also took over theatre and muscials. Like in 1967, when musical Hair was performed for the first time. It’s a musical about the hippie counter culture, and protesting against the Vietnam War. A few of it’s songs really connected to the Vietnam War.
In the 1960’s, the Asian-American theatre became a thing. Asian-American theatre is a theatre written, acted or directed by Asian-Americans. There were four theatre companies; in Los Angeles, New York, San Fransisco and Seattle. Hiroshi Kashiwagi was one of the first people to write Asian-American plays. During World War II, he and his family were sent to a camp in America for Japanese Americans. He wrote a lot, and joined a theatre company. One of his plays, called “the plums can wait”, was performed in San Fansisco, Los Angeles and Berkley.
